. . .but saturdays i seem to succeed at. who knows what will come of this weekend. last weekend was pretty intense/awesomekinda. caught metric, (which you can read all about at www.muzzleofbees.com), made a new galpal, caused some shennaniganry down in wp, and also failed at my last friday night. so i think instead of trying to make plans on the 1st wknd eve, i will just forfeit any efforts and embrace my sole night of chillaxation. the roommate's gone all weekend, so after melting all day (post dentist, lease signing, running around lincoln square, andersonville and lakeview), i opted to clean my aptmt floors and sip on some new glarus spotted cows and reheat some chicken fajitas. very nice.
now, i'm looking outside at the black and gloomy atmosphere out my window. at least it's cooled down enough where there's a breeze coming through my bedroom. that's nice. i decided to clean my apartment and now i'm just flat out beat. although i must admit if anyone gave me a ring, it would take me approx. 46.5 minutes to be ready to meet up for drinks. i'm like that, you see. i like meeting people and drinking alcohol. it's fun (most times).
instead, though, i think i'll spend the night with my two fave indie/electro/pop/dance wizards, yacht. their new album SEE MYSTERY LIGHTS drops officially, i believe july 28th. very longly anticipated, to say the least. dfa record superstars, this boyfriend/girlfriend duo, jonah and claire, toured extensively with james murphy/lcd soundsystem and jonah has made a name for himself amonst all blogs o' the minute, including p4k, fader, stereogum, and of course muzzle of bees (har har, get it, i praised em). totally awesome, gracious, humble people. seriously. i met them after their schuba's set back in march before sxsw and not a week later, i was bumping and grinding shoulder to shoulder with the pair in the fader fort kanye crowd. soooo amazing. ah. they also did a 5 qs w/mob. love em.
anyway, so i heard summer song. and i heard the rmx of fell in love with a ripper. and then i heard boring/do what you want. and then i got sml. and heard the same 3 songs w/a non remix version of fell in love with a ripper. and the album only has 10 tracks, 4 being duplicates, meaning only 8 tracks. but these 8 tracks are seriously solid enough to bump see mystery lights into my top 10, possibly 5, albums of 2009. and it's only half over. that's how fucking good it is. once you pick up on all the layers, and hear al the fucking work that went into the process of making such radass jams as the afterlife, and ring the bell and psychic city, you can't help but a) shake your ass (hard!), b) fall in love with these rippers. shit is so good.
makes me happy. and i like being happy. when music can accomplish this, the goal is complete. b4 i got sml, i was thoroughly rocking the rarariot/vampire weekend side project discovery, and digging on LP, pretty hardcore, thinking nothing can really up this in dancemangrooveship, but i was wrong. as dope as discov's rendition of jackson 5's want you back (in discovery) is, yacht still kills it morel.
anyway, just got that text inviting me out for friday cocktails, so this tangent is concluding now so i can get my sweaty ass in the shower. i guess my friday skills are sharpening, after all.
