erykah badu :: really?

i never really got into the whole r&b slinky, sensual groove sounds of modern funk/soul. i can appreciate the older, influential shit for sure. but more modern BET marvels i always pulled the white girl card and pleaded ignorance. out of sheer curiousity, earlier this morning i opted to download the newest erykah badu album. not really expecting anything, i just wanted to check it out after a conversation with a pal who asked me to confirm if women really liked boning to her shit. "hell if i know dude." well, i still have no clue. but i do gotta say i'm somewhat pleasantly surprised to enjoy her beats. maybe it's the sunny day outside. the pot of coffee i chugged this morning. the fuzzy afterbuzz of hanging with pals i haven't seen in a while after some consumed said coffee and failed thriftstore shopping. my leisurely stroll through four chicago neighborhoods and local park. or maybe it's really the music. i don't know. but there's something about miss badu's honey-dripping vocal work and janelle monae-esque newage funk beats that's drawing me in today. this makes jodi pretty content.
