dudes. i am old. night numero 2, number 1 of the actual music fest, and i was again back in my hotel by 9:00 pm. it's weird not having a badge this time around, not having the liberty to go to the night showcases - but i'm okay with this. yesterday was hardly a bust, however. brooklyn vegan hosted a pretty rad day set at emo's - a metal showcase for court inside which i neglected to check out, and a pretty solid jodi line-up outside. caught rural alberta advantage - who i've read about time and time again, but never really looked into - def will post sxsw, they surprised me and were def very very decent. i dont know why, but i guess i figured they'd be the same flavor of the indie folksy generic group of the week. they kind of were, but dancey with chimes. i like dancey with chimes. a lot. especially when there's open bar full of magic hatter beer and some mystery tea vodka drink. chugging 4 beers and a vodka mixer in the sunlight by 2:00 pm equals a very drunk and dancey jodi. following r.a.a. was the morning benders, who i really enjoyed but was floored to see that the average age of the 5 dudes was probably 20. big purple x's marked both hands of the players and their faces were baby faces. one even wore their own shirt. ohhh boy. pretty big sound for a pack of lil dudes, though. glad i got to catch em live. ending our stint at emo's was japandroids and they packed a mean punch of energy, really fun set. drunk drunk drunk.
then we wandered over to grab a slice at our fave pizzaria. then caught up with some friends to catch their set over at plush where $3 lone star/pbr tallboys took hold. craziness. then after mass wandering, splitting up, getting cold, getting sunburnt, getting tired, jodi wandered back to america's best value to receive an array of long overdue late "where are you" texts, mapped out today's gameplan which will be intense. there's something like 20 conflicting, coinciding day parties. got my hair/makeup did now and will be out the door shortly. sunburn on my neck, sniffly nose, i'm out to party like a gramma. wish me luck, g's.
